Silicon Dioxide is a versatile inorganic compound widely used in the chemical, pharmaceutical, rubber, coatings, and food industries. It is commonly available in two forms based on production methods:
Fumed Silica: Produced via the gas-phase method, fumed silica has a very high surface area and is primarily used as a thickener, anti-caking agent, reinforcing filler in rubber and plastics, and in coatings to improve mechanical and thermal properties.
Precipitated Silica: Produced via the wet-chemical (precipitation) method, precipitated silica is used in rubber reinforcement, toothpaste, food additives, paints, and coatings. It offers good dispersion, consistency, and moisture absorption properties.
Both forms of Silicon Dioxide play important roles as fillers, flow agents, and functional additives in industrial and consumer products.
